Who We Are

People First is a self-advocacy group. The members of People First formed the group to be run by and for people with developmental disabilities, but anyone can join.

How we Make a Difference

  • We listen to each other and to our friends, to hear their concerns.

  • We support each other and speak up for each other

  • We help group members speak up for themselves

  • We talk to state and local leaders about our needs and other's needs

  • We believe in civil rights for all people

  • We want to be sure people with disabilities are living good lives

  • We call for the community to respect and include ALL people

What Else do Members do?

People First of Boone County and other local groups are part of a larger group - People First of Missouri.

Besides advocating for our rights, we do other things like:

  • Have guest speakers at our meetings

  • Thanksgiving potluck

  • Holiday dance with Columbia Parks & Rec

  • Walk and Roll-a-thon

  • Mizzou Homecoming Parade

People First of Boone County is committed to providing a website that is accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of circumstance and ability. We aim to adhere as closely as possible to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.0, Level AA), published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These guidelines explain how to make Web content more accessible for people with disabilities. Conformance with these guidelines will help make the web more user friendly to everyone. We strive to adhere to the guidelines and standards for accessibility, and we hope to achieve this. Be aware that due to the dynamic nature of the website, minor issues may occasionally occur as it is updated regularly. We are continually seeking out solutions that will bring all areas of the site up to the same level of overall web accessibility.

If you have any comments and or suggestions relating to improving the accessibility of our site, please don't hesitate to contact our website coordinator Amy Parris at aparris@bcfr.org or Mark Satterwhite at msatterwhite@bcfr.org. Your feedback will help us make improvements.
